My Essentials

Let’s talk about the base. All makeup begins with a good base. This evens out the skintone, hides imperfections and give you a clean canvas to begin getting snatched!

The Base.

Colour matching –  Colour matching is probably the most important step for your base colour. Too light and you will look ghostly and too dark you will look muddy. The key to finding a good foundation is by matching your foundation to a small section of your lower neck but if your neck is a lot lighter than your face then you must match your face colour. This ensures the colour blends from your forehead right down to you neck and if your matching your colour to your face then you must use bronzer down your neck and clavicle area to blend.

Another key factor is colour tone. Do you have a warm based complexion or do you have a cool tone. Choosing the wrong tone can have mixed results. Too cool and you will have a pinkish tone to your foundation and too warm you will have yellowing. My skin tone is extremely hard to match. Being Maori in ethnicity it is difficult to find 1 colour that is near to my skin tone. So I end up using two and sometimes 3.

Choosing a formula – In my opinion choosing a formula is the next most important step. There are products made for every skin condition known to man. If you have skin that has more imperfections then a medium to full coverage is going to work best for you. Personally I am a full coverage girl. I like my skin looking flawless and doll like. Other formulas that are on offer are. Long wearing, Normal to Dry skin and Normal to oily not to mention all the countless hydrating formulas.

My Base makeup routine consists of 6 step.

  • Primer
  • Foundation
  • Concealer
  • Setting Powder
  • Contour
  • Bronzer

Let’s get to shopping and get our base SNATCHED to perfection!!!

A good Primer is very important. It helps to blur pores by filling them to give skin a smoother appearance, preps the skin for a application of foundation and last but not least, primer makes for removing make up easier. Here are a couple of my favourite primers on the market.

This is probably one of the most popular primers on the market and it has been many years now. It is widely used by Beauty enthusiasts around the globe. This was one of the first primers I have used and I absolutely love it. This is probably my go to when I need a good filler and smoother to begin my makeup routine.

Bobbi Brown is probably one of the greatest discoveries when it comes to primer. It is a little on the pricey side but believe me once you try this you will not use anything else. Not only does it nourish the skin it gives you a flawless base in prep for foundation. I probably use this one the most.

Now that we have a good base we are ready for the next step which is foundation. As explained above, foundation has to be a close match to your skin colour to be flawless. So let's delve into the world of foundation. Here are 3 of my all time favourites.

I love this foundation. Its silky and incredibly easy to apply. It dries down slowly giving you time to blend it out. It is a pricey product but you know what they say “You get what you pay for” and I totally recommend this product. The colour range isn’t that inclusive but I found a way to blend 2 colours together to make one that matches my skin tone.

Fenty Beauty has changed the game for foundation products. With her all inclusive shade range she has set the mark in the foundation world. Not only is the formula amazing. You have to be fast when applying this foundation as it dries down really quick. So apply to small areas of the face to begin or you will have problems with blending. Other than that it is probably the foundation that I only needed one shade to closely match my skin tone. Not only did that save me money from having to buy 2 shades to match but is probably one of the products I like to wear during the day.

MAC cosmetics is still one of the leading brands that has stood the test of time. Not can you rely on this product to deliver it provides SPF 15 to help protect your skin from UV rays. I don’t know about you but this is one makeup brand I was obsessed with since I started using make up. To this day when I am in a hurry I will flush my face with this foundation with a lil lippy and mascara and I am out the door. If you are looking for a product that is trustworthy and consistent then MAC studio fix is for you!

Concealer can save the day if you have darkness under the eyes or your eyes are carrying luggage. Concealer can disguise imperfections and highlight the dark areas of the face.

The most popular concealers on the planet. Tarte shape tape concealer will help to minimize imperfections like, dark circles and lifts the eye area for a more flawless finish. Probably my most used products I have in my makeup collection. Sometimes if I am in a hurry I will pop a bit on my problem areas, blend it out and I am ready to go!

This is another popular concealer. This very affordable product comes to us from Maybelline and they have really stepped up their game with their formula. I really like the price of this one. Not to mention its availability. This is a must have for any Beauty enthusiast that doesn’t want to break the bank.

Setting Powders.

We all should know by now that the oily skin look is never going to be a thing in the Beauty industry. We strive to have a matte but dewy complexion. Here are 2 of my all time favourite setting powders on the market.

This translucent gem of a powder is second to none. It is a micro fine powder perfect for setting and baking the under eye area. It doesn’t leave your skin feeling over dry and cakey. This powder is my all time favourite but is a bit on the pricey side but never fails to deliver on quality.

Back to a good old staple I used for many years. This product has stood the test of time. Not only does it veil your skin with an invisible layer powder to lock in your foundation it also minimizes and blur pores and fine lines. MAC prep and prime powder is an absolute must for those who don’t want to have to take out a mortgage to buy a powder.

As we all know J.LO and Kim K caused a contouring craze which is still used to this day. Contouring is used to shape your features and sculpt them into perfection. It can help refine areas of the nose, jawline, cheeks bones and to minimize the forehead.

I have recently hit pan with this product. So I will have to purchase more. This product is easy to use and is very blend-able. I use this alone sometimes if I am in a hurry. I just contour where I need it. My problem areas being my forehead and I also like to shape my nose. I highly recommend this palette. It is a must have for any beauty guru.

To be honest with you all, most celebrity cosmetic lines can be focused on the brand and not the product. In the case of the KKW Beauty contour and highlight kit is actually really good. I love how blend-able these products are. You don’t really get much product for the price point but I really love how simple and easy it is to use. The packaging has somewhat caused a backlash but I love it. It is very modern and the contour/highlighter can be mistaken for you personal pleasure device (If you catch my drift). lol I am not a fan of the brush. Sorry Kim but is it not what I am used to using to blend out my contour.

Bronzing Powder.

Time to add a bit of a bronzed glow to the skin and furthermore blend the contour and foundation colours together for a flawless transition between the dark and light areas of the face. Bring your skin back to LYFE with a sun kissed bronzy veil of love.

Staple alert! Benefit came to the party with this bronzer. I have been using this product since release. It is the perfect bronzer. Great for traveling because the packaging is perfect to fit in a handbag or in a makeup kit. This was my first love. The quality is amazing and it is super blend-able. I love this!

Since I got this product my Hoola bronze has been able to take a well deserved break. This bronzer is buttery and melts into the skin for a perfect finish. It SMELLS freaken amazing! It has a sweet coconut fragrance which is stunning! This bronzer surprised me the most. Once again super blend-able and is my new favourite bronzer!

Essential Tools.

When apply any kind of makeup, you always have to have the right tools for the job. I will give you the essential tools you will need to do a whole makeup base.

This little beauty has taken over the world!! It is the most used foundation application sponge around the globe. There are dupes out there but don’t be fooled by imitation. You have to try the original to know how bad the dupes are. So get quality with this ultimate beauty essential tool. I also use it to bake my face with translucent power.

This is the brush set I have. It is a worthwhile investment. There are many brush sets on the market but if you want good quality you have to pay the price. These brushes are soft and has a brush for every makeup task. This is the only brush set I have purchased and it has lasted me for a year and a half.

Corrective Cover Makeup.

Now, corrective makeup has been around for a very long time. Most people wont need to use a product of this nature. These are makeup products that have colours that counteract redness, facial hair shadows and help to even out the skin tone.

I always have this on standby if I need to colour correct areas of the face I feel need to be neutralized. This palette contains everything you need to combat redness, shadowing and dark circles and for many other skin conditions you need to snatch!!

This is My Essentials BASE edition. These are the products I use to do my base every other day. I don’t wear a full glam makeup everyday. Some days I keep it light and fresh. There we go my loves. I hope you enjoyed reading and shopping with me. I will see you next time. Thank you for being here! I love you all for reading. <3
